KNP self-drive guidelines reminder during Level 3 of the Lockdown

Zitat

(Der Link ist für Gäste ausgeblendet. Um ihn zu sehen, bitte registrieren!)

18 June 2020

The Kruger National Park (KNP) Management would like to remind Day Visitors to the Park today, 18 June 2020 to continue to adhere to the COVID-19 Health Protocols as outlined by the government especially on the social distancing aspect when travelling for self-drive excursions. National Parks, of which the KNP is one of opened their gates on 8 June 2020 after the country moved to Level 3 of the lockdown as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in May 2020.

The Managing Executive of the KNP, Gareth Coleman said the general feedback from regular visitors is that they are delighted that the Park is open for them again even though they are not able to sleep over. "We are in unchartered waters with COVID-19 and had to get all hands on deck to make sure that those visiting had a good experience. It was important for us to orientate our colleagues at the front line on the Health Protocols around the virus so that they could assist and safeguard our visitors and employees. The issue of PPE's, training and the recording of personal details of visitors went as envisaged and we are grateful for the massive cooperation from our clients" said Coleman.

The guidelines to adhere to during self-drives in the KNP are as follows:
  • Maintain social distancing by at least two metres (2m).
  • Notwithstanding requirement that day visitors in one vehicle must be from the same household, limitations on vehicle capacity and the number of occupants have to be firmly enforced upon entry at gates. The restriction is that occupants may not exceed more than 70% of capacity and we request visitors to adhere so they are not turned back at the gates.
  • Guests are advised to book in advance (preferably online if possible) in order to assist in planning as strict quota management will apply; with the understanding that booked day visitors must arrive at the gate within that time span.
The time slots below will apply:
    Time slot 1: 06.00 to 08:00
    Time slot 2: 08:00 to 10:00
    Time slot 3: 10:00 onwards
  • For online bookings, visitors can visit (Der Link ist für Gäste ausgeblendet. Um ihn zu sehen, bitte registrieren!)
  • Those who are in possession of firearms should declare them at the gate so that they can be sealed upon entry; break the seal when departing.

"At the moment, picnic spots are only to be used for ablutions as no braaing is allowed under the current regulations. The restaurants and Park shops will be open for takeaways only. Finally, the quota system will be in place at all gates to ensure compliance in terms of numbers inside the park and to enhance visitor experience"; concluded Coleman.

Zitat

(Der Link ist für Gäste ausgeblendet. Um ihn zu sehen, bitte registrieren!)

19 June 2020

South African National Parks (SANParks) said in a statement it is preparing for a recall of its hospitality staff and for a phased-in approach in the reopening of its overnight facilities in the wake of an announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that accommodation providers can resume operations in alert level 3.

This is according to SANParks CEO, Fundisile Mketeni, who said the President's address on Wednesday, 17 June 2020 brings good news to SANParks and many nature lovers who for the past three months have been yearning to visit their favourite national park. "However we urge those who cannot wait to book into our accommodation to exercise a bit of patience as SANParks readies itself for the reopening".

He said SANParks will approach the opening of its accommodation facilities responsibly to ensure that the gains made by South Africa in curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic are not compromised.

Mketeni said the process of recalling back staff in preparation for the reopening is still to commence... "we will then immediately activate the re-training of staff on new operating protocols in line with industry standards. The safety of both staff and guests is critical and we have to ensure that we are in compliance with regard to regulations as well as health standards and protocols. We will announce the dates for the reopening of accommodation bookings in the next few days".

29 June 2020

South African National Parks (SANParks) head office in Groenkloof, Pretoria had to close its doors today (Monday, 29 June 2020) as a precautionary measure after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus).

SANParks Acting Head of Communications, Rey Thakhuli confirmed the closure and said the offices are expected to reopen on Thursday, 2 July 2020. "This means no one will be allowed in the building before Thursday, 2 July as a deep cleaning exercise is now underway". Thakhuli said guests who have been making amendments to their bookings are requested to expect delays as the call centre staff will not be in the office until the mandatory period of decontamination is concluded. The call centre staff will, however, work remotely and continue to be available by email.

He further reiterated that all precautionary measures, social distancing rules and additional sanitation are in place at all our facilities and we will continue to vigilantly implement these to protect both our staff and guests to our facilities.

SANParks, CEO Fundisile Mketeni wished the affected colleague a speedy recovery. "I would like to encourage any of the staff members or their immediate families feeling sick to utilise our 24 hour COVID-19 Counselling services. We are working hard in ensuring that staff and guests are safe at all times".

National Parks Still Not Open For Overnight Stays

Zitat

(Der Link ist für Gäste ausgeblendet. Um ihn zu sehen, bitte registrieren!)

03 July 2020

South African National Parks (SANParks) today advised customers that it has not opened for overnight accommodation as per Level 3 lockdown regulations on leisure and interprovincial travel.

Day self-drives in national parks continue to be permissible for residents of the various provinces that the respective National Parks are located in; visitors are urged to book online and to observe all COVID 19 health protocols while in the park – including exiting the park with as much of their refuse as hygienically possible.

Fundisile Mketeni, SANParks Chief Executive Officer acknowledged that the organization is aware that many domestic tourists are eager to enjoy the tranquillity offered by national parks and that they would like to extend the current self-drive opportunities to overnight stays. He urged tourists to be patient until leisure travel and interprovincial travel regulations are implemented.

All overnight bookings for July have therefore been suspended; the public will be advised in due course when bookings open. The organization advised those with overnight bookings to delay their travel and not cancel.

Mketeni concluded by advising South Africans to continue supporting government efforts to minimize the impact of COVID 19 by adhering to lockdown rules. "We are seeing increasing infection numbers and regrettably the loss of lives as well. This is a reminder that a decision to open up our facilities has to be well-considered to ensure our colleagues, tourists and their friends and families' health are not compromised. We all have to be patient and trust the processes and decisions of our leaders during this difficult time, we will announce the dates for the reopening of accommodation bookings in due course".

"We appreciate that after three months of confinement, the public is keen to engage with nature and the excitement as shown by enquiries from our loyal visitors is encouraging. We are obligated to ensure that the opening of our national parks for self-drive excursions is done under the strictest health protocols to safeguard both our staff and guests."
